It’s a federal program that helps eligible households save money and stretch their budget with monthly paid benefits to purchase groceries.

Your benefits can be used at a wide range of participating locations across Louisiana like grocery stores, pharmacies, convenience stores, gas stations, and some farmer’s markets.

Your SNAP EBT Card

SNAP makes it simple and easy to buy food or get cash benefits now with the Louisiana Purchase EBT Card. 

Your benefits are automatically applied to your Electronic Benefits Transfer (SNAP EBT) card each month and can be used just like a debit card to purchase food at participating locations.

Right now, more than 430,000 Louisiana households are using SNAP every month to help save money and purchase the food they need.  

SNAP FAQs

  • No. We are the State Food Bank Association.

    Our role is to support the collaborative efforts of the state’s five regional food banks. We assist in helping our member food banks accomplish their policy and advocacy objectives, in addition to their food sourcing and fundraising efforts.

  • Yes!

    The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is sometimes referred to by other names such as food stamps or Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT)

  • SNAP benefits are available to a wide range of people, including single adults, families, seniors, and those who are employed.

    Individuals who don't have children may still qualify for SNAP benefits.

  • You can use your SNAP benefits to buy groceries like:

    • Fruits and Vegetables

    • Meat and Fish

    • Dairy products

    • Bread and Cereals

    • Snacks and Beverages

    SNAP benefits cannot be used to purchase:

    • Alcohol and tobacco products

    • Vitamins and medicines

    • Non-food items like pet food, cleaning products, household supplies like toilet paper, or hygiene items like shampoo, menstrual products, baby formula or diapers

  • No.

    You do not need to be working in order to apply for or be eligible for SNAP.

  • Eligibility is based primarily on household income and certain expenses.
