As a Medicaid Outreach Coordinator, I have sat across from a teary-eyed single mom, a couple of happily married recent retirees, a recently released inmate, and so many more. Being able to provide face-to-face, human interaction has made a difference in their Medicaid experience. Simple kindness from them has helped me settle into this position and find success. The most profound explanation of what my job description is came from that crying mom, she said “I can do this, I know how to get on the computer, but I cannot do it alone.” I was honored to hold her hand while she shared her story. I typed and she talked, we shared our human experience, bonded as moms, and applied for Medicaid for her children all at the same time.
