Beating the Clock to Prevent Lapsed Medicaid Coverage
Our Medicaid Outreach Coordinators have a mission: help Louisiana residents retain their existing Medicaid coverage. Continuous Medicaid coverage ended earlier this year in April with the passage of the 2023 Consolidated Appropriations Act (CAA).
The Medicaid Outreach team has worked hard to interact with 18,850 Louisiana residents who are in danger of losing their Medicaid coverage. They have successfully completed 280 applications for both new and existing members.
The team of 12 was hired to conduct outreach across the state to help existing Medicaid members, and also assist new applicants. They set-up info tables in places like food pantries, churches, libraries, and other community hubs where they can reach the highest number of people possible to spread the word about the action needed to avoid losing Medicaid Coverage. They also conduct direct outreach to Medicaid members via phone and email.

SNAP Outreach and SNAP Education Reach Thousands in Our State
SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) is one of the largest anti-hunger programs in Louisiana. It provides food assistance to an estimated 936,112 residents. Our five member food banks have SNAP Outreach Coordinators who play an integral part in fighting food insecurity in our state. The Coordinators are dedicated to assisting new and existing SNAP recipients, and have helped more than 108,324 residents since October 2022.
Feeding Louisiana assists with SNAP Education in 20 parishes across our state. SNAP Education includes a variety of programs and outreach initiatives designed to shift communities towards healthier eating habits. From May - September of this year, SNAP education has served 14,950 residents.
