It was a typical day at a Food bank. I got to meet different individuals and families coming to get supplies and food. As I watched and talked about Medicaid with everyone, there was this one woman I knew I had to help. She’s a person who is experiencing homelessness. As I set outside, I watched her walking around picking through things, we would consider trash for her “house” in the woods. It was her time to go in and she only came out with such little food and no other supplies, as the others before her. I asked if that was enough, she said it will do until next week. I told her of resources that I knew of, but it was an hour away and she only had a bike. I offered her a ride and to bring her to the any of the shelters I knew of. She declines, but I couldn’t let her. Even though I was there for Medicaid Outreach, I knew she needed more than that. If it wasn’t for my experience and partnerships during my Medicaid Outreach activities, I wouldn’t have been able to help her more than I was able to.
