I have been going to Grace Ministries every Wednesday for the past few weeks during the time they are open and serve dinner to anyone in need. This is a story from there:

The past few weeks Louisiana has been under an extreme heat wave and warning. On this day as I sat at my table at Grace Ministries, I noticed a woman fall to the ground with a man by her side. People quickly gathered round and assisted her into a chair. She did not seem well and was having a seizure. Help was quickly called and she was taken away by ambulance. The man with her was extremely upset and asked for their dinner to go. As they left, I told them I would pray for them and hoped everything would be ok.

The next week I saw them there and walked over to tell them how happy I was to see her doing better. They told me their story. They had met online and fell in love. He moved to Arkansas from Connecticut to marry her. Together they decided to move to Louisiana to start a new life together. Things have been tough and they are currently homeless. I told them to please see me after they finished eating their lunch and I could help them apply for Medicaid.

They did. We completed the application. I checked their application the next day to see if any additional information was needed and was pleased to see they had been approved.

The following Wednesday they came to me and thanked me and were so happy to have health coverage. The look on their faces said it all they showed me the cards. This was the first step to improving their lives and getting back on their feet. They are currently looking for a place to call home and I hope they do!!

I also gave them information about SNAP.
