We all can help feed hungry children in Louisiana

In our state, confronting the urgent issue of child food insecurity demands our utmost dedication.

The numbers speak volumes: East Carroll Parish bears the ignominious distinction of the highest child food insecurity rate nationwide at a staggering 42.8%, with Madison Parish following closely behind at 36.1%. Shockingly, 1 in 5 children in Louisiana face hunger, and nearly 22% reside in food-insecure households. These aren't just statistics; they're the harsh reality for innocent children in our communities who endure hunger every night.

Louisiana, renowned for its culinary legacy and food culture, deserves better. This isn't merely a moral lapse; it's a systemic crisis requiring immediate and collective action.

It's time for all of us to confront this challenge head-on. Concrete steps can be taken, starting with robust support for our local food banks. These organizations are at the forefront, providing crucial aid to families in need and ensuring no child in Louisiana sleeps hungry.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana: Extending assistance to 23 parishes across south Louisiana.

Food Bank of Central Louisiana: Covering 11 parishes in the central region.

Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana: Serving 7 parishes in the northwest.

Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana: Assisting 12 parishes in the northeast.

Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank: Supporting 11 parishes surrounding the capital.

Act today. Whether by volunteering time, donating funds or food, or advocating for supportive policies, every contribution counts. The time for action is now. Let us unite as a state and declare with one voice: No child in Louisiana should endure hunger.
